Whats better is..

1 piece of Ascalon/Knights, Gladiator Chest & leggings and either Gladiator or Stonefist Guantlets.

Thats the best combo for warrior's armor. The thing you need to remember is that the damage absorbtion from knights/ascalon armor is a global effect - this means you only need one piece of knights/ascalon to get the full benefit from the damage reduction. And Gladiator armor beats everything else in terms of advantage..

Extra energy and it's got 5 more AL vs physical with a loss of 5 AL vs elemental when compared to 85 AL armor. and since most times your going to be facing physical damage.. at least in PvE..

but when comparing 80 AL with damage reduction vs 85 AL with no damage reduction.. Ensign has done a big analysis on this fact.. and iirc he concluded that the more damage you took the worse off knights/ascalon did compared to the 85 AL armor..

but in game mechanics.... take 1 piece of 80 AL with damage reduction and the rest as the 85 AL armor - take boots or gloves.. this gives you full benefit from the damage reduction as well as higher base AL on most places your going to be hit..

Edit - Read this thread.. it contain's Ensign's math's on this..

It's such a small difference, just go with what you think looks nicest.
